Please join Vincent Feldman on a “tour” of images taken from his book, City Abandoned: Charting the Loss of Civic Institutions in Philadelphia. These photographs portray aspects of the decaying architectural landscape of Philadelphia during the 1990s to early 2000s.  Mr. Feldman’s work illuminates the struggles and controversies that haunt preservation in the nation’s most historic center.  He will show highlights from the project and tell stories behind the photographs to shed light on the city’s troubling late 20th century history.

Architecture critic of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Inga Saffron, has written that City Abandoned is “a deeply moving survey of the great civic structures that Philadelphia erected, then neglected.”  The Wall Street Journal called City Abandoned “a melancholy catalog of such civic failures...that transcend merely local appeal.”   Robert Venturi described the work as “An aesthetic masterpiece—most relevant and revealing for our time.”

Feldman's book will be available for purchase and signing at the talk.
